A band with no members is silent as could be

Pipe bands consist of just four different instruments: bagpipes, snare drums, tenor drums, and bass drums. Our band is currently seeking additional members for all instruments. Whether you are a brand new beginner, a lapsed piper or drummer looking to get back into it, or a proficient musician seeking a band to join, we would love to hear from you!

Our band members come from all walks of life and include or have included a dentist, educators, students, engineers, business executives, a director of a nonprofit organization, a police officer, a computer programmer and a member of the Coast Guard. We are an all-volunteer band with 501(c)3 status and are always open to admitting new members.

While our practices and rehearsals are geared toward our members, we welcome anyone to attend in order to meet the band and even try out a practice or two if you already play!

Directions to the Jim Barnett Park War Memorial Building

Go to maps.google.com and simply enter the latitude/longitude of 39.174963,-78.154635 into the search box. This will direct you exactly to the War Memorial Building. If you click on Satellite view you can easily make out the building. The usual practice room, the George Washington Room is in the northeast corner of the building.

If you still need more directions, the following may not be the most direct, but are probably the easiest to follow:

Getting to Winchester

Winchester can be accessed from Northern Virginia via I-66, VA 7 or US 50. From the North or South on I-81, you will want to use Exit 313 (US 50, US 522). Once in Winchester, Jim Barnett Park is a short drive from this intersection.

Finding Jim Barnett Park

From the intersection of US 50 and I-81, proceed west on US 50 (Millwood Avenue) down the hill, through the traffic lights (two lights very close together) and stay to the right on Millwood. Jubal Early Drive curves left toward the Hampton Inn and away from the park, so you will want to be sure to stay right on the single lane of Millwood. Continue past Shenandoah University to the next traffic light at Pleasant Valley Road. Take a right on Pleasant Valley and continue to the second traffic light. Turn right onto Cork Street/Senseny Road and proceed to the first traffic light. Turn right into Jim Barnett Park.

Navigating the park to the War Memorial Building

Once inside the park proceed a few hundred yards to your first left. Turn left in front of the War Memorial Building and continue about 75 yards to the parking lot on the right. You can enter the building via the old entrance on the north side or through the new Active Living facility on the east side. The usual practice room, the George Washington Room is in the northeast corner of the building.

MUSIC

Dots and lines on a page

Where shown below, the band setting for our music is done in Bagpipe Music Writer Gold (BWW). It can be opened, played and printed with that program, or with the free Bagpipe Player or with the full or demo version of Electric Pipes. Or you can print the BMP or JPG files for your own copy of the music.
